Antithrombin III (human)
Indications/Uses
Patients w/ hereditary antithrombin deficiency in the treatment & prevention of thromboembolism; prevention of peri-op & peri-partum thromboembolism.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dose based on individual clinical conditions, response to therapy, & actual plasma antithrombin levels achieved.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis. Risk of transmitting infectious agents. Regularly perform coagulation tests (eg, aPTT & anti-factor Xa activity). Monitor patients for the occurrence of bleeding or thrombosis. Measure functional levels of antithrombin in plasma by amidolytic assays using chromogenic substrates or by clotting assays. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, chest discomfort, nausea, dysgeusia & pain (eg, cramps).
Drug Interactions
Enhanced effects of heparin. Effects of drugs that use antithrombin to exert anticoagulation may be altered when Thrombate III is added or withdrawn.
